One of the most worrying recent developments in epidemiological oncology is the steady increase in breast cancer incidence in most Eastern countries, where the disease was underestimated only 30 years ago. Increases in incidence over such a large geographical area will require massive efforts to achieve effective disease control, and professional associations dedicated to such control are therefore appearing in many countries.

We believe that the experience accumulated in Western countries – where breast cancer has been common for over a century and where mortality is markedly declining – could be useful in other parts of the world. We, therefore, feel that collaboration between cancer experts coming from different countries, especially from eastern countries, would be very useful. We thus have taken the initiative, with a few friends, of founding the Euro-Asian Society for Breast Diseases.
